We are suddenly unable to drag files from our repository using the Windows client into an open email in Outlook. We know we cannot drag files from the Web client into an email, but we have always been able to do it using the Windows client. The loss of functionality appears to be happening to people one by one. For example, some of our staff noticed the problem during the past week or so. I had no problem on Friday, but it stopped working for me today (Monday). The "Attach Laserfiche Document" tool in the Laserfiche tab does work, but dragging and dropping files or pages from a file was so much simpler. Is there any known issue between Laserfiche and Outlook?
We are using Avante, Windows client 10.4.1.147, our Outlook is Microsoft 365 MSO (16.0.12730.20144) 32 bit and our OS is Windows 10 Pro 64 bit.
Thanks.

Question
Cannot Drag and Drop from Repository to Outlook
Answer
Laserfiche is working with Microsoft to resolve the issue. For now, the recommendation is to revert outlook to the previous version using the instructions on this page:
Reverting Office to 16.0.12624.20466 (the April 15 version) fixed the issue for me.
If a large number of users are affected, it might be simpler to advise them to use the workaround of dragging the file to the desktop and then from the desktop to Outlook.
Another workaround my users liked more was using the Laserfiche ribbon at the top of Outlook. I showed her how you can just click the Laserfiche tab and then "Attach LaserFiche Document" The prompt opens to the folder my user has already open in the client so its 2 clicks to get the document into an email instead of drag and drop and then there is no file to clean up off your desktop. This might be easier for folks working on 1 screen.
i do not have that option for my ribbon. is this a different add in?
It should be the same add-on. Usually when you install Laserfiche Office integration, you get a Laserfiche ribbon in all the office products. Not sure why you won't have it if you installed the integration.

Can confirm this seems to be related to an update to Outlook. If your Office installation is on the monthly update channel, drag and drop stopped working with the latest update. The latest update in the semi-annual channel still seems to be working.
Everyone, dragging and dropping from Laserfiche to Outlook is working again! It's going to make life just a little easier.
Hi Annette,
If this is slowely happenening to users one by one, chances are it's a MS Office patch that's being applied which is stopping this functionality.
A good test would be to see if you can drag documents to your desktop, rather than into emails to see if this is a MS of LF limitation/change. You can also test dragging files from your desktop into an email, this should also give you some clues of where the change has happened.
I would suggest firstly upgrading Laserfiche to 10.4.2, and then seeing if the problem still exists. If it does, you'll be in a good position to raise a support case with Laserfiche through you VAR and they can help you further.
Hope this helps!
Thanks and Regards
Chris Douglas
It does look as if there was a patch rolled out for Office 365 yesterday, 5/4/20.

Microsoft has released an update for Outlook which reportedly fixes this issue. You can refer to https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdates/current-channel for more information.
Reports are that applying MS Outlook update Version 2005 Build 12827.20268 and higher resolves the matter. See https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/3e3d3923-31bf-477e-b10d-09901afd89e4/copy-and-paste-in-outlook-365-from-remote-desktop-connection?forum=outlook
Thanks, Chris and Zach. We tried all of the dragging and dropping variations when the problem first started occurring. Everything else works - even dragging from Laserfiche to the desktop and from Outlook to Laserfiche. Since the only issue was dragging from Laserfiche to Outlook and we had not updated Laserfiche, we figured it was probably a change in Outlook.
We have experienced that same functionality loss with one of our clients reporting this issue as well. They are running the newest Office 365 build of Outlook. It started 2 days ago. They didn't make any Laserfiche changes...the functionality just suddenly stopped working. Good to see that we're not the only ones. It definitely felt like a Microsoft update may have caused the issue and now that seems to be confirmed with other users experiencing the same problems.

Hi Anenette,
This has also just stopped working for me too. So this is defininately a MS patch which has broken this functionality.
I'll raise a support case with Laserfiche to see if they can identify a fix.
The 2 workarounds at the moment, is to either drag the document to the desktop first, then into the email, or use the 'attach Laserfiche documents' button within the LF ribbon/toolbar.
Cheers!
Further update - Bug 242372 has been filed for this issue
I just had a user bring this to my attention. Nice to see a bug fix has been filed.
We have a client with exactly the same issue on 1 workstation in their office. They are running 10.4.2. Tried repairing LF, outlook, even reinstalled outlook and Laserfiche client from scratch. We finally resolved it by reloading the Operating system (Win 10) on the workstation; a fairly tedious process since we had to reload all their other software as well.
We are having this issue as well. I see that there is Bug 242372 that has been filed for this issue. Anyone know how to look up the status with the Bug number?
What changed? Who fixed it? LF or Microsoft?
Why is it not possible to drag a document to attach to an outlook email from the webclient?
