Best way to save your Form in 10.4.2.381

asked on April 29, 2020

For the last 5 years I have been saving my form (while working on it) by clicking on the Field Rules button. Not sure how I picked up that habit but just found that it works and it is close by. Now in 10.4.2.381 that button no longer saves the form, I can tell because any fields I add are not listed in the field rules area after clicking the button.

Now I save the form by pressing F5 on the keyboard. Is that the right way to save a form? In cloud there is a save button, but there is not a single version of on-prem that includes one.

The forms auto-save periodically and anytime you leave or refresh the page. Going to the field rules tab should trigger this save and the newly added fields should show up. Could you send a video of that not working so we can file the bug? Adding new fields then going to field rules shows them for me.

F5 triggers a page refresh which also saves the form.

Here is a video

I was in such a habit of using field rules to save that I have mistakenly done it many many times already. It definitely does not save, I have to go back hit F5 every time to see my fields.

Did you recently upgrade to Chrome 80 browser? We put some fixes in 10.4.3 to address changes on the browser side. My first hunch is that is what's causing the issue and why it broke all of a sudden.

Looking through our bug list, I actually found this bug filed and confirmed it is due to Chrome 80 update. All previous versions of Forms were affected, but we have it fixed in 10.4.3 update 1. The bug notes that the problem does not occur in FF if that is an option. It also notes that if you preview the form, it will be saved and you can then switch to the field rules tab.

Also to be clear, the fields will be saved, the problem is about the field rules tabbing refreshing to get the latest fields. If you close the browser after adding the fields, they'll still be there when you return.

I can confirm I've had the same issue. Like Jared said, they are saved but just do not show up in the Field Rules nor Lookup Rules tabs until the Layout tab is loaded again (whether the page refreshed or tab navigated to again) or you preview the form.

Sounds good. I was more concerned that saving by pressing F5 (refreshing the browser) was not a safe way to save. It sounds like it is the right way to save though. It just feels scary refreshing a page in order to save your work.
