Question

Perform redaction through Workflow or Quickfields without pattern matching?

asked on April 7, 2020

Hello,

I am trying to figure out how to apply redactions in bulk on W9 forms that we receive from our members. The vast majority of them are handwritten SS#s due to the member printing them out and filling it out by hand. I just want to apply the redaction to a certain area of the form since they are all formatted the same. Pattern matching wont work obviously because the numbers are handwritten. Are there currently any solutions for this?

In Quick Fields, there is a Fixed Annotation option, where you can define the position and size of the redaction on the page. If you used this with Document Classification, you could find that document type and apply the Redaction where required. If you wanted to just redact the whole page, you could do that as well.

That seems like the best option, what version of Quickfields is that on? We are on 10.3 and I can't seem to find that process.

My Quickfields is 10.3.0.81, but I also have the Classification Module. The Guide states:

"Fixed Annotation  adds an annotation, such as a redaction, highlight, stamp, sticky note, or text box to a specified location on each document. Fixed Annotation can be used in Pre-Classification Processing, Page Processing, or Post-Processing."

I am assuming at this point you would need to add the classification module to get this functionality. You would need to reach out to your VAR for pricing

With a WF script activity you could place a redaction at a known location. You would need to have determined that this is a relevant document, and your scanning process would need to be reliable enough that the SSN is within a predictable area.

Would there be a way to apply the redaction to the entire page without a script? We don't have the SDK unfortunately.

It is installed as a separate application. Been around since version 9 I believe
