Question

Unable to create new data source in Forms

asked on March 30, 2020

Hello,

We are attempting to add an ODBC data source in Forms to a source that has a license restricted query limit of 1 connection at a time. When we enter the ODBC connection information into Forms Administration > Data Sources and either Test or Create, we get an error that ultimately corresponds to our database query limit being reached.

We have no trouble connecting to other ODBC connections; we also have no problem running a query on this particular database from the vendor's provided query tool.

As there is no other source connecting to this database at the same time, we suspect that Laserfiche is making multiple simultaneous connections upon testing or creation of the data source connection. Is this possible?

We ultimately may end up updating our license with this vendor to increase the number of ODBC connections allowed, but we don't want to do so until we better understand the specifics of why we're running up against the limit.

Thank you,

Jesse Struck

Are you using SQL express?

No, this is a connection to a proprietary database of our third party accounting software which we can connect to using ODBC.

Thanks for the response!

Thank you for reporting this issue. It turns out to be our bug, we create 2 connections when test your data source settings. Though the connections will be disposed after testing, it need at least 2 connections.

It should be fixed in the coming release.

You may be able to bypass the issue by creating a linked server from SQL to your data source.  Then create a view in SQL that collects the data that you want to report on and from Forms, query the view.
