AD FS and Directory Server - Cloud (non-Laserfiche)

posted on March 17, 2020

We have a Client that wants to utilize AD FS with their Laserfiche System. Their Laserfiche Server is hosted by a third party and it is not on any domain. Per the instructions on configuring AD FS with LFDS, there is a need to setup an Identity Provider and enable the AD FS Authentication.

The AD FS Authentication is only available under Active Directory Identity.

In the case where both Laserfiche Server & Directory Server applications are both on the same server machine, and this server:

  1. Is in cloud.
  2. Not on any domain
  3. Different network than their AD

How would you go about getting AD FS to work in this environment without joining the LFS Server to the Client's domain?

It seems that Laserfiche might be doing something similar with their Cloud setup.

Directory Server itself is not supported in a Workgroup, so the server that LFDS is installed on should be on a domain.

Thanks Blake for the prompt answer.

That being said, does it matter which domain the LFDS server is to work with Client's AD FS? That is, if Client's domain is on abc.com and LFDS is on xyz.com, will we still be able to use Client's AD FS with their LFDS (which is on a different domain and network)?

My understanding is that you would need a trust between the two domains and you would add abc.com as an identity provider after which you should be able to setup the AD FS configuration within LFDS.

What about getting connected via VPN into that domain
