Question

WebLink Pulbic Portal

asked on March 6, 2020

Dears

Hope i find you in good health!

I'm reaching out to you asking for more details concerning the WebLink Public Portal.

My question is: One customer has a public portal for 1 server license. We need to know while assigning one public user that automatically logs in for all public users, does the ability of signing-in using Laserfiche users/Laserfiche windows account users still there?

If yes, can you provide a link where it shows how to configure it because i've searched some articles in Laserfiche's web help files with no success at finding out how.

thank you in advance for you help!

Hello Joseph,

You can add the repository an additional time, but this time change the login method to suit your employees (LF Server authentication or auto-login with windows, but if they are offsite then LF authentication might be preferable.)

This will create a second DBID. Changing the DBID number in the Weblink url to the newly created one will allow your users to go straight to the login screen rather than login as a public user.

Hello Brett,

i created a new connection using the same repository but using the option of Prompt for Laserfiche credentials, I tried to change the dbid in the following url:

localhost/WebLink/Browse.aspx?dbid=0

And set its value to 1 (which is new dbid shown in the new connection) so i'm left with:

localhost/WebLin/Browse.aspx?dbid=1

Both results were the same. i didn't get the credentials window that i must receive before entering WebLink.

Do i have to effect any additional configuration that i didn't notice changing?

I kindly ask for your advice on your idea.

Thank you Bret and have a nice day.

This is how I set it up on my VM and it seems to be working correctly. Make sure you sign out of weblink before trying dbid 1.

hello Bret,

I set up my WebLink Designer the same way you did.

The thing is, It is only working when i choose the new connection (related to prompting credentials) as the default connection.

The only disadvantage it has is that i cannot keep altering the values of the dbid to keep changing my connection type. It only works when i alter the url dbid value from 1 to 0. When reusing the value of 1 instead of 0 in the url, it is not prompting me for credentials once again since Laserfiche WebLink cannot logout from the current public user session.

thank you Bret for your help. I really appreciate it. If you have any remark based on your experience in this matter i'll be glad to hear.

Other than that i thank you for your time!

You shouldn't need to change the default connection. If you go to a different computer and go to servername/WebLink/Browse.aspx?dbid=1 without visiting the public dbid first, then it should prompt the login screen.

I'm also confused what you mean when you say you can't logout from the public user session. You should be able to sign out via the "More" Menu in the top right, or the "Sign Out" button if you are on the home page.

Hello Brett,

I was trying to do the test using my Virtual machine so logging out didn't work since already the dbid has the value of the first connection.

Nevermind, i tried it and it worked. Trying this setup from another machine went smoothly.

Thank you so much for your intervention.
