Does anyone have any idea when us legacy customers with on-prem installations will get the new features, including Bots?

There is nothing on the roadmap, also it wasn't mentioned at empower 2020. I think, the very earliest this may be possible would be empower 2021 (Jan/Feb 2021).

I hope we're not being slowly abandoned.

After attending Empower 2020, it certainly felt that way. There wasn't a single thing released for On-Premise customers, everything was cloud.

The annoying part of all this, is we can't even sell cloud in Europe, as there isn't any offering for the EU region (or any region outside of USA/Canada/Mexico for that matter!).

I cannot give you an official date yet, but we will hopefully have more details coming soon, both on RPA & other cloud first items being available to on premises and for cloud availability outside of North America.

Thanks Cosette. Considering this is a forum of mix :- users and partners.... confidence of “Coming Soon” is great. One humble request..... please declare/show a feature to horizontal community when you know the probable year / quarter for both cloud and on on-premise. This will help in avoiding cross-model (Cloud / Subscription / Avante / Rio) queries. At some point commercial model has to align with marketing model. Let’s work on this alignment for global synergy and positioning. We get this query in India that Laserfiche on website claims ”Cloud” but we don’t offer it in ”India”. Question is how to avoid unnecessary questions while we market it RIGHT.

Hi Chris, Chandresh, and others -

I just wanted to step in and speak to this discussion. First off, we actually have been releasing regular on-premises releases over the last few months. We released 10.4.2 in Q4 2019, and then also have our private cloud deployment scripts, Enterprise Identity Management package, and ongoing releases to Forms and the Laserfiche Directory Server. The Office 365 integrations are available in both environments as well. You're correct that the most flashy items from Empower 2020 are limited to Laserfiche Cloud environments right now, but that's because they specifically take advantage of Cloud technologies. Many of them, such as direct share, were implemented such that they could be snapped into on-premises and self-hosted systems as well. So I want to dispel this idea that nothing is being released and that we are somehow abandoning on-prem.

Continuing past that, as Cosette spoke to one of our largest initiatives for this upcoming year is to ensure that our entire customer base can take advantage of our new cloud-first (and currently cloud-only) features, and we are designing and working on a hybrid model that will facilitate this. We expect it to include many of the exciting new features such as direct share, workflow bots, and the upcoming smart invoice capture, among others. I don't have specific dates yet - I know you want that, but we are ensuring that we are not doing this as a one-off but as an overall framework that will continue to support new cloud-based features and enhancements in the future so we don't find ourselves in the same situation over and over. It's a strong personal goal of mine to address this though.

Hi Justin - Appreciate you stepping-in. Allow me to explain the confusion of On-Premise Users and SP’s who cannot sell Laserfiche Cloud for “obvious reasons”

A. Empower 2020

- Users and Partner ratio you might want to share to explain why the event was focussed on Cloud and not balanced for Global / On-Premise Customers. I paid USD 1,395 to attend ++ flight+accomodation.

- Flashy features as you mentioned were focussed/limited on Cloud. Just to clarify (Non-Cloud) SP’s and Users who attended EMPOWER 2020 asking questions because “they felt disconnected during the event”. Allow me to have few questions on “flashy items"

  • Direct Share: Features required
    1. Can we use POPULAR Cloud Account of Customer? OneDrive / Google Cloud?
    2. This feature still doesn’t have an age /expiry date definition
    3. Meant for Non-Laserfiche-Licensed User
    4. Share a document to a Non-Laserfiche User \
  • Smart Invoice Capture
    1. Marketed as AI & ML which can capture 4 fields (Invoice #, Invoice Date, PO #, Total Due).
    2. This feature might help in the US but not sure of outside the US. We did this in 2009 with Laserfiche RIO. Justification of AI and ML for Cloud may be OK but for On-Premise you know better than me.

B. Cloud knows "When" will it RAIN but On-Premise knows "RAIN Coming Soon"

- Coming to your dispel proposition….“So I want to dispel this idea that nothing is being released and that we are somehow abandoning on-prem”

  • We would request you to give due considerations to "SMALL" global community and understand why as an SP / User question is on
    1. BOT or Direct Share or some other Flashy Features in your terms
    2. Concept of abandoning is due to the way it has been marketed

  • We as an SP are selling “Laserfiche” as a future proof investment, but when we seek investment, “customer/user” asks “when is the future”. Every-one is asking “WHEN” and that’s when I requested to not market “Cloud Features” to “On-Premise” customers.

Justin… setting expectations for “Marketing” is OK but for “Product Development/Release” am not sure. Marketing is fine when expectations can be managed within 06 months; beyond that "marketing team" / "global events" should refrain. Community Ratios and Classification of customers is an important consideration.

Hi Justin, Look at this page which has the release roadmap mapped to the oldest month of July 2019 https://support.laserfiche.com/roadmap/ and we will enter into April 2020 in a couple of days.

I am just trying [Being a Solution Partner] to align marketing with product development timelines. Both should have a common "roadmap calendar" published transparently to the community which generates revenue for us. You and Thomas Phelps would agree that Roadmap should always have a minimum of 12 months forward-looking plan for all models (Avante/Rio/Subscription/Cloud). You can always have separate roadmaps for cloud and others to avoid this confusion.

Point is to have a Road map for On-Premise and Cloud separately. This is enough to create confidence that On-Premise is there and meant to be there always. There is a good population who believes in CAPEX rather then OPEX.

Hello Justin,

Have we determined if RPA will be available for On-Premise environments yet or is this in the same category as Smart Invoice Capture and Capture Profiles?

Additionally, when dealing with RPA (LF Cloud or potentially On-Premise), are there concerns/limitations/restrictions to consider when it comes to logging into other applications and performing tasks as it pertains to security and/or auditing? Or, is that left to the discretion of the organization?

Thanks so much,

Unfortunately, we do not have a plan for RPA to come to self-hosted any time in the near future. Laserfiche Connector, which is available for both cloud and self hosted, is able to hit some of the use cases of RPA though, so if you haven't already played around with it, I highly encourage checking it out.

As far as limitations and restrictions, this is mainly left to the discretion of the organization since we cannot possibly cover all sites/software a user may want to integrate RPA with.
We do have one specific feature to help with not being registered as a malicious bot and that is our "wait" feature. This activity in the toolbox can be used to have the bot pause between steps if having two many actions performed quickly one after each other will cause problems (such as when sites have features to prevent bots from spamming the site).

OK thanks Cosette for the reply. While that's less than stellar news, it's nice to have a fixed position on this.

Best Regards,

It’s a product development strategy aligned with cloud business model. With cloud you get faster feedback which is key to product roadmaps and also analyse what is being used and what not.

Also architectures are different and thus it will take at least another 2-3 years for Laserfiche to reach a stage of harmonised release for Cloud and OnPremise.

In 2-3 years SP will need to work on “Private Cloud” offering as customers are asking for this and we are saved only till OpenText, FileNet and Newgen doesn’t come with Cloud globally.

Anyone interested for Private Cloud offering for any region let us know. We are working with Microsoft on this. We are also setting up Managed Services to accommodate the Laserfiche as a part of PAAS.

Private cloud is great, and something we have various partners offering. What private cloud doesn't give you however, is ANY of the features from Laserfiche cloud. As technically, private cloud behaves the same as on-premise.

Hi Chris, I agree with you on feature standpoint when you compare LF Cloud with LF OnPremise. Our offering is focused on LF Subscription + Cloud Deployment. We have seen partners loosing deals on  deployment grounds not on feature grounds. Cloud has its own challenges when you try to integrate with an OnPremise solution and thus if we look at leveraging quotient it’s better with any RPA Which will work with multiple instances and indifferent schedules then being dependent on LF RPA for OnPremise which will work with only one instance.

Private Cloud by an existing SP v/s Cloud Partner is a value proposition based how LF SP’s can come together and build an ecosystem.

Hope you agree.

Are bots still only supported in Cloud?

We're currently working on a mechanism that will allow on-premise customers to buy bots. Our hope is for it to be released within the first half of next year.

I have a client who will start in cloud, use some bots there, and them move to an on premise system. Once we purchase bots, will we have import/export for bots?

Yes, import/export for bots has already been released. Both are available on the bot management page.

The hybrid architecture approach means that the primary logic and functionality is the same in both cases, as it's basically the exact same modules.

That said, I'm curious about this 'will start in Cloud and then move to self-hosted' example. Can you speak a little more to that? Thanks!

Hi,

I would also like to know if there has been a date set for on premise release for this.

Hi Mui and Laura,

The workflow bots are currently only available on Cloud systems and there is not currently a release date for self-hosted systems. Can you speak more to the specific scenario you are looking for, and we can see if that's something that can be accomplished with current functionality? Thanks!

Thank you, Justin.  But we have been anxiously awaiting the release of bots for tedious data transfer between systems.  It is not something that workflow or other functionality can accomplish.  It seems to keep being pushed further back, and responses become more vague every time an ETA is requested.

Thank you Justin. I was looking into it mainly for the smart capture for our AP files. The ability to automate our current AP process.

Hi Laura,
We found there were more technical questions around bringing bots to self-hosted than we originally anticipated. Would you mind sharing your use case? I can pass it along to the bots' product manager as something for her to keep in mind as she works on the rearchitecture

Thanks so much for reaching out!

Hi Mui,

Actually, capture profiles and smart invoice capture are separate from workflow bots and is currently slated for deployment for self-hosted systems sometime in Q3. I don't have an exact date, but we're zeroing in on it. That's why I wanted to confirm the specific needs behind the request.

Hope that helps, thanks!

Hi Cosette,

Our use case is, I believe, the same one highlighted when we participated in the open testing in 2019.  We want to record steps to transfer data records from a legacy system into a newer system, where other methods of importing/transfer are not possible.

Thanks!
