Question

Unable to edit Account Page in Laserfiche Forms

asked on March 5, 2020

Greetings,

1. I am using an avante system with lfds for the first time. After importing the users from active directory, I am unable to edit the accounts page ( Username, Name, Email section).

2. Also, admin console can only retrieve groups from LFDS but not users. i wonder why this is though... Due to this, even though users have emails in their LFDS accounts, Forms cannot retrieve the user emails.

  1. Same story. If you sync Forms or LFDS with AD, we keep the username, name and email synced. To change these, you must change them in AD and allow the sync to update them in Forms.
  2. Skipping this because I would recommend what you said in Q3
  3. Yes, you can configure Forms to authenticate directly with LFDS.

Here is some documentation on authentication into Forms.

https://www.laserfiche.com/support/webhelp/Laserfiche/10/en-us/administration/Default.htm#../Subsystems/Forms/Content/Administration/Configuring-User-Authentication.htm

You can follow the steps in the red box to switch from admin console authentication to LFDS authentication. If you have a working system with admin console authentication and you want to switch to LFDS, you can also check out the account migration tool linked below. It will migrate all of your admin console users to LFDS and update Forms to work with the new LFDS users. If you already have LFDS set up though, you likely only need the link above and the steps in the red box.

Hi Jared,

Thanks so much for your support. I couldn't wait till weekend was over so i found a thread that showed how to display the "Use Directory Server..." option in FormsConfig, which makes form sync with LFDS. That worked and pulls AD details but still, users are unable to edit their accounts page in forms.

That's correct. As I mentioned in my response to question 1, if you are using AD users, LFDS and Forms grab that information from AD. You cannot change them in LFDS or Forms, you must change these values in your Active Directory and let the user sync update them in Laserfiche. This is actually the benefit of using AD authentication in Laserfiche, you only have to manage your users in one centralized place. If a user needs their information updated, you don't have to change them in AD and LFDS (and Forms), you just change it in one place and the changes propagate through.

When you sync with AD, the account information like name and email is pulled from the AD account. If you want to update them, you have to do it in AD which is the source.

For Forms, generally organizations make a group in LFDS called "Forms" and put everyone in it. That can be used in the Forms config and you'll get all your users. Once the users are synced into Forms, their account info like email will be there as well.

Hi Jared,

Perhaps a few adjustments in my question, my bad.

1. I am using an avante system with lfds for the first time. After importing the users from active directory, I am unable to edit the accounts page in Forms ( Username, Name, Email section). The only thing i can edit is the signature field and time zone.

2. Also, admin console can only retrieve groups from LFDS but not users. Example: in LFDS, i have imported users from AD and i have created groups in LFDS which i assign each user to when importing the users. Since Forms syncs users from Admin Console, i have to import users from LFDS into Laserfiche Directory Accounts in Admin Console. When i query LFDS with the import wizard for users (image attached), i get no match

but if i query for groups in LFDS, i get a match (image attached).

i wonder why this is though... Due to this, even though users have emails in their LFDS accounts, Forms cannot retrieve the user emails.

3. Is there a way to configure forms to sync users from LFDS directly?
