Question

Standardization of Scanning - Image Enhancement settings.

asked on January 28, 2020 Show version history

We are looking for a way apply a several image enhancements on all scan jobs from 50 users.

Is there something that could be done at the administrator client to enforce these settings?

I also wondered if the settings are saved to a local file that can be edited and replicated to other users.

Has anyone come across a solution for this?

Image Enhancement settings are stored in a users attributes.  I would suggest creating a new temporary user, configure scanning image enhancements to your liking and then exit Laserfiche Scanning.  If an administrator checks the attributes of the new temporary user there should be a subset titled Scanning-USERNAME.  You can then select and export those attributes and apply them to other users, groups or the everyone group for a unified user experience.

Hope that helps,

I will give this a try. Thank you for your response and I hope this becomes useful for others in the future as well.

Laserfiche settings are stored in user attributes.  Any image enhancement settings configured in your scanner software are not included in that solution.

In our case we deploy a pre-configured paperstream profile to each user with the login script.

Unless I am misunderstanding what you are describing I think this my have changed at some point.  I just tested in a 10.4.0 environment and I was able to add some image enhancements in Laserfiche Scanning to ScanUser1, alter the the settings for each enhancement from the default settings and exit.  After exporting the attributes from ScanUser1 to ScanUser2 (both accounts newly created and never used previously), when I opened Laserfiche Scanning as ScanUser2 all the image enhancements and the settings I selected for ScanUser1 were now available to ScanUser2.

If Laserfiche image enhancements meet your needs, everything will be stored in Laserfiche Attributes.

In our case there was noticeably better performance using the scanner image cleanup.

ahhh gotcha.  Last question: Was it a particular scanner make/model or do you find this to be a common scenario where the scanner image cleanup outperforms the Laserfiche image enhancements?

We use fujitsu fi-6xxx and 7xxx scanners with Paperstream software.  We did side by side comparisons and the paperstream scanning software was faster and produced a cleaner Black and White image than the Laserfiche image enhancement.

That said I would never recommend Paperstream.  Fujitsu really hurt themselves when they stopped bundling Kofax with their scanners.
