Admin account missing in Directory Server

asked on January 15, 2020 Show version history

Shouldn't there be a user called Admin built-into the Accounts Tab of directory server that can never be removed?

There always was on Avante systems. We still see it in the Admin Console, but with STS those accounts are ignored.

The admin user only exists at the repository level.

The reason I ask is that sometimes IT/ourselves will use the Web Client to access the repository so that we can have the same experience as the user, after enabling STS we can no longer login. This is why I expected to find the Admin account in Directory Server.

Unless I am way off, I am pretty sure you can still log into a repository with a repository user even if you have single sign on available.  When you get to the WebAccess login page, credential in instead of clicking Windows authentication.  I do it all the time with the local Forms user since Forms still requires a named user account to run.

You don't have a forms user setup in your accounts in DS? For us it is not working, if the account is not in DS, it says the username or password is incorrect. We can only use the Windows Client.

On a side note, you can run the forms service account without a license. The config page states that the Forms user must have a license when you try to configure forms for the firs time. However after saving the configuration, you can remove the license and forms still runs perfectly, your save to repository tasks that use the forms account work as well without any licensing needs. It is similar to the workflow service account.

@Chad, if you wish to sign into the repository using Web Client and Laserfiche Server authentication (in order to sign in as the built-in Admin repository user) you will need to deselect the "Only sign in with SSO" toggle in the Web Client configuration > Services page. If "Only sign in with SSO" is turned on, you can no longer sign in as a repository user when using Web Client.

Oh got it, thank you. I guess we were checking that option thinking it was a requirement for STS setup.
