Feature Request: access forms from repository and repository from forms

asked on January 8, 2020

Our management gets frustrated at having multiple log-ins to Laserfiche, having to access one site for forms and another for the repository.  They regularly log into the wrong site and throw their arms up in frustration that they don't see what they need.  While some of this is training (on my part), some of this could also be addressed by improving this aspect of the user experience.  To that end, would it be possible to create a way to access forms from the repository and conversely access the repository from forms within these Laserfiche modules?  It would need to be an easy/intuitive option, such as potentially something that lives at the top of the screen on all screens, that allows for the joined user experience of both, in a similar manner to how the app incorporates both experiences.

Thank you,

Jason

If you are using web client, you could create a custom tab to display Forms.  You do this by clicking on your user name while logged into the repository then click Options then under Display - Tabs - Add then add your URL for Forms.  Then a user could have access to both from the same browser tab.

I believe Laserfiche is actually working on something similar to what you described. At the Empower conference during a "coming attractions" course they gave us a look at a web-based customizable "dashboard" that combined elements from the repositories, Forms, etc. into a unified interface.

This was a "coming attractions" course, so a timeline wasn't provided, but it did show that this is indeed something they were actively pursuing.

As Jared mentioned, I'd also highly recommend looking into SSO. It really boosted our user acceptance when we implemented automatic Windows login and removed the need to enter credentials altogether.

To expand on what Jason mentioned with the dashboard, it is currently available for LF Cloud users and at some point should make it's way to on-premise. I think another thing that could be taken from LF Cloud is the application menu that is used. When you hit the Cloud, there is a menu that gives the end user shortcuts to the different applications. It would be nice to see this with on-premise users as well. It would probably take a setup similar to the current web client configuration where you enter in the different URLs for the different products, but would be extremely useful and would potentially solve the issue you are seeing.

Still waiting for this "Cloud Home" type of Dashboard to come to OnPrem.

Thank you all for your input.  While I do look forward to the shared experience noted by Jason and Blake and will definitely be checking out the coming attractions session at Empower, I had forgotten about the custom tab setup and this fits the bill until the unified experience is released for on premise installations.

Thanks for your input!

Jason,

You are welcome. Be aware that the view of the custom tab only expands to the size of the right pane in the web client. We've had some people say that made it not workable for their needs. Just wanted to make sure you were aware of that.

Blake,

For the purposes of our management to interact with forms, this works great.  For my use and the use of our IT manager who manage the forms processes and content, we are capable to open a second window ;-).

Thanks again and see you at Empower,

Jason

Have you looked into using LFDS for user management? You can use single-sign-on so that users log into Laserfiche as a whole and can access both Forms and the repository without logging back in.

Jared,

We have some unique config issues on our end, so this may or may not work, but more central for our user experience concerns is the easy transition from forms to the repository within the Laserfiche environment/experience, avoiding having to click on it in our saved favorites or open another tab in our browser.  Is there anything that currently does this in a web environment?  How it functions in the app is great, but is not always practical for our management.

Thanks
