Question

word processing in Forms text boxes

asked on December 11, 2019

Hello, Form submitter's are asking if there are any formatting options within a forms text box. I have always responded that no it is not possible to bold, underline, or italicize text in a forms box. Is there any CSS or java that will allow formatting in a forms text box?! All we have now is CSS to blanket 14 pt. verdana for all completed forms.

If it's not possible now, is it in development for a future version of Forms ?Thank you.

Formatting specific text within a standard multiline textbox is not really possible; this is not a limitation of Forms, it is just the nature of the HTML textarea element.

You can use CSS to bold or underline the entire contents of the field, but not specific pieces. You could probably format it a bit more on the saved copy because it gets converted to text, but that still doesn't allow the submitter to add any kind of format/styling.

However, Forms 10.4 added a Rich Text field type, which does support this functionality (and more).

Thank you Jason. We are on 10.2 and probably won't be upgrading anytime soon but that is good information. I figured as much with the version that we have.
