Question

Embedded Document Text Retrieval

asked on December 11, 2019

Here's our situation...

We would like to use Laserfiche to embed a simple form into our website. This form would basically have two fields... a generic text search, and a date. Based on those two fields, it could then run a search of our repository for that information, and return full document text from that matching text search.

All of that is fairly easily accomplished in workflow. Form submits > workflow runs, returns variable > voila, it's all there in a "Return text" field.

The problem is that this would be used by the public, not internal users. As such, I'm not aware of a way to accomplish this, as it HAS to be a Forms > Workflow pass-off to make this work, and there'd be no way of returning the form with it's return text to the user upon submission.

Has anyone else had an issue like this, and are there any solutions out there that we're aware of? One thought is that perhaps it's time to make a public-facing repository with these documents fully searchable that way. That is probably going to be our best route, but I'm wondering if the above can somehow be accomplished, and I'm just not seeing it yet.

Have you considered a custom search form in weblink?  Bypass forms altogether.

I don't believe we have weblink... I can't recall, is that a separate module?

Just looked it up - yes, that sounds more in line with what we're looking for. Thanks!

Seconding Erik's suggestion. WebLink custom search forms exist to address this exact type of use case and are the correct tool for the job.
