Question

Question

Can I customize factory defaults for a repository?

asked on November 27, 2019

There are a number of tweaks that we like to set in everyone's Tools\Options and we have to manually walk through these every time a new person starts, or for everyone again when we get new computers, or if we have to unload and reload on someone's computer if there was a problem.

So, is there a way to customize the factory defaults?  So that they will always go back to those standards that we want for everyone?

In Laserfiche Client these are stored as User Attributes, You could set a model profile on one user and export these settings,

You can then go to the everyone group and import these settings to the everyone group and they will receive these settings.

  • Please note, that if a user was to change something to their like/dislike, then their user attributes that they set will override the Everyone group.

Well, that at least gets me part of the way there.  Thanks for that tip, Anthony!  I can at least use this once every three years when all the computers are changed out, instead of having to make the changes to 40+ computers manually.  I wouldn't want to do it as a general rule since I know that it would wipe out any special tweaks some of our users do use.  Right?

What about the Snapshot Printer defaults?  I always have to do those manually for everyone, as well, and it is a major pain!

Connie I think you are misunderstanding what Anthony is talking about. The attributes are saved per user, not per machine. They are also saved at the server level, so they will follow a user anywhere they go.

Blake, thanks, and please confirm:  So, what you are saying is that even if I use Anthony's suggested option, it won't wipe out the personal settings they chose after I manually set their Tools\Options settings?  That's good (unless they took off OCR or something that we have been insisting on).

OH!  Another thing:  I just noticed that Anthony's printscreen shows changing Everyone's "Basic Scanning" options in the attributes.  If I understand correctly, none of us do basic scanning.  None of us have scanners at our own desk, hooked directly to our computers.  Scanning is all done from network scanners in any of three central areas throughout the office.  So, again, please confirm:  Changing Basic Scanning settings will change only the settings for scanning at your desk, and will not change Tools\Options settings for drag'n drop, or MS Office integration for bringing documents in?  Or, of course, the Laserfiche Snapshot options.

Connie,

Rather than me trying to explain how it works, this might be a better reference for you to start with https://support.laserfiche.com/resources/2410/trustee-attributes

Blake - old post - but when I click the link to the white paper I get a 401 error.  Is anyone else experiencing this?

I get the same thing. The White Paper is 11 years old, but it still comes up in the search results on the Support Site. I had our Solution Provider try the link and they get the same message too.

The paper was written for version 8 and has been retired when version 8 went out of support.

Trustee attributes have been included in version 11 documentation.
