Question

Scan Sources in Quick Fields. Which is best practice?

asked on November 21, 2019

For normal scanning into the Laserfiche client with our DR-G1100 we use Scan Connect. However when I'm setting up a Quick Fields session that option isn't available. I'm having mixed results with using Universal Capture, and so I thought I'd give the Laserfiche Capture Engine a go and try to pull the pdf's I'm trying to manage from the repository instead. That yielded zero results as it wouldn't even let me select the pdf extension for the "Documents Matching" drop down (there's just nothing in the drop down at all). I seem to be going back and forth between recognizing the first page and separating the documents easily, but not being able to read the document name, and being able to read the name, but not recognizing the cover pages and only scanning it as a single document. I'm not sure if the scan source could alleviate this issue, but thought I'd ask about it just in case. If anyone has any ideas I'm open to trying anything at this point!

Thank you!

Joshua,

For the Laserfiche Capture Engine - just set things up via the "Configure Scan Source" tool and then configure where in the repository you want your Quick Fields session to retrieve and process the documents from:

Working within Quick Fields to identify the first page can be tricky and is dependent on the document quality and how well OCR was applied to it.

Hey Craig,

Thank you for responding! I found that there were more issues when I tried to pull from the repository, than when I just used a different scan source. For some reason it wasn't seeing my pdf's at all in the folder I have them in on the repository. As far as the first page identification, I swear it seems like I can change nothing and run it two times and get two completely different results haha. It's giving me an ulcer I'm pretty sure.
