LFDS 10.4.1 Update-Enabled STS Configuration -LFDS Service would not restart

asked on November 15, 2019

Hello,

Today, I updated a Customer's LFDS from 10.2.1 to 10.4.1 to enable STS Configuration.

Each time we launched the Endpoint Configuration Utility and made changes and then saved them, the utility would hang for about 10-15 seconds and then we would get a pop up the the LFDS 10.4.1 service was unable to start.

The config changes in the Utility saved, but then we had to manually start the LFDS service.

I looked in the Directory Service->Server Logs and found no error messages.

Only thing I can think of is that the LFDS Service is running as the Local System account.  But that had been that way for the last few years.

Any pointers greatly appreciated.

Hi Jeff,

I have also seen this issue on some machines. As long as you can start the service back up manually, there should not be any other effects. A bug has been filed for the problem and we will work on resolving it in a future release.

A general troubleshooting note for services that don't start:

It's worth checking the Windows > Application and System event logs too. Relevant error messages often end up there since if the service can't start, it can't necessarily log why it can't start itself, while the operating system can.
