Question

Long term backup solution

asked on November 12, 2019 Show version history

Hello,

We currently have a database and file system backup process in place that would serve well if we had a catastrophic failure.  What we don't have is a separate and more permanent archival process for something unrelated to a disaster.  The scenario that immediately pops in my head is a user that accidentally deletes a directory of data and they don't realize it until two years after the fact.

The best options appear to be either exporting a briefcase or exporting volumes, as they allow for compression, encryption, and (from what I gather) can be executed while users are in the system without issue.

Is this a fair assessment of my options, or is there a better way to look at this?

Thanks,

Greg

It might be worthwhile to turn on auditing and setup reasons feature, which forces people to specify why they're deleting(exporting, printing, etc ) items. That combined with adjusting how long items stay in the recycle bin might catch any extraneous non-disaster but accidental deletes of sensitive data.
