Question

Question

free disk space

asked on November 12, 2019

Good day. They guide me how to remove disk space from the repository. In the client I have already deleted files with a weight of 10gb but in my physical disk I do not see the reduction of space.

Thank you

Hi Alfonso,

Did you purge the documents from the Laserfiche repository's Recycle Bin? They will automatically cycle out in 7 or 30 days (one of those is the default) or you can manually purge them. Once documents are removed from the Recycle Bin, LFS will delete them from disk during the next repository maintenance window.

Hello Samuel

Thank you for your support and response.

I attached the screenshots of my administration console is version 10 and what I deleted from the trash.
I think the console version does not have the maintenance window.

Hi Alfonso,

It looks like you're running an older version of LFS (or at least Admin Console) that doesn't show the maintenance window. The default should be 1:00am - 3:00am, so check back tomorrow. If you've purged the Recycle Bin, the disk space should be freed up by then. You should also consider upgrading to the newest version of Laserfiche (10.4.x)!

Hi samuel, good day.

Thanks for your prompt response.
That's right, space was freed, I attached the image.
The support license with Laser has expired, I can still perform the administration console update.
Another question has to be updated all to the same version or you can have only the updated console.
Greetings and thanks.

Clients (like admin console) in general can't be updated without also updating the server.

More specifically, the Client/Admin Console version cannot be higher than the Laserfiche Server (LFS) version. Backwards but not forwards compatible.

E.g. Client 10.2 works with LFS 10.4, but Client 10.4 does not work with LFS 10.2.

Thank you for your answers.

Brian and Samuel

My support license with Laser was expired; I can perform the server update. Is it necessary to be an expert in the subject or can I do it with the support of a support manual? Thank you.

Upgrading Laserfiche Server is relatively simple and you can do it following the manual. The general steps are:

  1. Stop the Laserfiche Server service during a maintenance window.
  2. Take full backups of your repository database and volumes in case you need to roll back for any reason.
  3. Run the new Laserfiche Server install wizard. It will detect the existing version and give you the option to Upgrade or Remove. Select Upgrade.
  4. The install wizard will then take you through the upgrade process. Mostly you only need to click "Next" while it automatically handles things.

You do need active support to get the new software versions for the upgrade though. You should reach out to your VAR/solution provider for options there. With over 10TB stored in your Laserfiche system it seems like an important solution for your organization that should have the latest performance, security, and feature updates.
