Question

How to automatically open a document created by workflow during a user initiated business process?

asked on November 6, 2019

Hi,

A user is initiating a business process on a document. Part of that process is that a new document is generated (a response letter) by workflow. This response letter is pre-populated with information from the first document, and it is saved to the repository. This part is working well, but the users would like the document that is created to pop open on the screen.... is this possible?

Currently the users need to find the document that was generated in the repository manually :( We have looked at sending them an email with a link to the new document but this is not desired.

Thanks

You will not be able to open windows without a lot more work than what most are willing to put into it. Remember that after you start the business process, the workflow is running on the server, not the client.

One thing that you can do that can make it easier is to create the document or a shortcut to it in the folder that the person was working in.

Thanks Michael,

We have configured the file to be saved in the same location that the user is working in, and we have linked the new file to the file they are working on as well! With the link they can access the new file without having to close the file that they were in... but I can understand why they would like it to pop open in front of them.
