Why Can I Select a Distribution List for Licensing Sync but not for Adding to a Group?

When I setup a licensing synchronization rule or adding individual accounts, I have the ability to select from an AD distribution group or an AD security, but when I am adding a group in LFDS and want to ad an AD group to it, I can only select AD security groups and not distribution groups. Why is that?

Hi Blake,

This is because Distribution Groups are not intended to be used for setting security or access control.

What we've done in our environment is convert the desired Distribution Groups to Security Groups; as long as they are configured correctly and have an assigned email address, they can still serve both functions.
