Configuring Access for Federated Search when using Network Drives

asked on October 29, 2019 Show version history

Running laserfiche 10.4.1 and are testing out Laserfiche Federated Search.

We are now able to scan our network drives and use the search function.

I have a couple of concerns:

1. When we setup federated search to crawl our network drive I used account that had rights to see the files so laserfiche could index all documents.

2. When open laserfiche federated search with a windows account that did not have rights to the network drive in the windows environment. However, when I used the federated search portal the user now is able to search that network drive.

Is there a way I can change security in federated search portal to allow different levels of access?

Windows Environment

User A:
\\folder1\shared (Windows Environment): Has Access

User B:\
\\folder1\shared (Windows Environment): No Access

Federated Search

User A: \\folders1\Shared : Has Access

User B: \\folder1\Shared: Now has access but would like to make sure he does not since in windows he did not have access.

The users and groups here are not Windows users and groups, they are users and groups you added in the Laserfiche Directory Server since users sign in Federated Search page by the Laserfiche Directory Server.

Hi Ivan,

On admin page, open the rule and then click "Show advanced options", add users or groups in "Users who can view" that you allow to view and search the rule. By doing this, you can prevent others who are not in this list from viewing the results.

Thank you for that. I must of missed that option the first time i was doing the configuration.

Trying to add Groups from my Admin console but they don't appear on the drop down list of groups allowed?

Does the user need to be  name user for this feature to work?

These would be Windows groups and users since you wouldn't use Laserfiche authentication to log into your network drives.

Hi, Miruna

That would be correct. I see Windows User accounts when i perform a search but I'm not able to add Windows Groups that added to laserfiche.

I'm not clear on what you mean by " Windows Groups that added to laserfiche. ". Where does Laserfiche come into play here?

Hi, Miruna

Question is about locking down access as Chunfei mentioned above when I click on the windows " Users who can view" mentions that you can add user or group name?

When i search i'm only returned some of windows name accounts that have been added to laserfiche but i don't see any groups.
