Workflow not generating pages and extracting text for excel files

The excel files imported by workflow agent does not generate any pages or searchable text. When imported through any of the clients it does generate. 

For the files imported through workflow if I click on Generate Text icon then only it generates pages and text.

 

What am I missing?

Are you scripting the import? Workflow does not have any import activities at this time.

File import is done through import agent.

The import profile is set to OCR at import.

The import agent sweeps the file and brings the file in the LF repository. The workflow then reroutes the file to appropriate location. One thing I noticed, not sure if it matters,  that the server where import agent is runs, does not have any Microsoft office or ifilter installed. Would this be the cause of the issue that Excel files are not generating texts and pages?

Neither Workflow nor Import Agent have the ability to generate pages from Office documents. The OCR settings in your screenshot apply to image documents and PDFs only.

Is there any automated way like using SDK, recommended to generate text and pages from office documents which are imported through import agent?
