File size disparity between files sizes sent to Laserfiche cloud and original files

asked on October 24, 2019 Show version history

Hello,

We have a client that we are scanning documents for and sending them to their Cloud account. The file sizes of 2 boxes of documents are 2.54 Gig on our end but on the Cloud side they are 15 Gig. The images are in .tif format.

Why is there such a size difference and is there a way to shrink them on the Cloud side? This is going to cause a problem because it will exceed their plan size.

Do you get the same result in a local install of LF as the cloud?

We only have this customer on the Cloud. I don't have a local server to install this customer on.

I did just discover that there a large number of files in the recycle bin.

Removing the files from the recycle bin did not change the size usage. How can I see what it actually being used and how much space the document files are taking? Or is that only listed under the account plan page?

Deleting the files on disk happens on a background thread, so it may take a couple of days. The details displayed on the Plan page are the "high water mark" for the storage because that's what's used for billing. So you won't see the value go down even if the repository size has gone down until next month.

Ah, ok. Since this the storage is based on AWS, that does make sense.

Do you know why the files sizes grew?

The storage value includes both the size of the SQL database and the volumes on disk. The actual size was 12.4GB as of 10AM yesterday.

Without knowing more about the types of document and what is being done to them, I wouldn't venture a guess. Tech Support can help you do more investigation into the size change.
