Question

Improve Signature Image Quality

asked on October 21, 2019

Is there a way to change the signature image quality in Forms?  When a user draws a signature in a form, it doesn't appear really clear.  Is there a setting to increase the DPI setting for the signature image or improve the image quality?

Forms 10.3.1.635

In this example the user enlarged the size of the signature box to show how blurred the image is.

Thanks for the workaround.

We have added it as a feature request to support the resize the signature image to make it looks better when placed on a Word document.

The user is merging a Word document with the signature.  In the Word document the signature image looks grainy.  They also would like to signature image to be larger.

The size of the image generated for signature is hard coded to 176*60 px, and it can't be customized. It seems you customize the height and width for the signature view to be a larger one, which cause the image display as blurred. Is there any special reason that you change the signature view size? We want to know your use case and will consider to add support for customize the signature view size per signature field.

It would be awesome to find a way to change the hard coded quality of the signature image. One "work around" is to have users generate signatures in another web based program, generate base64 code for the signature image, then perform a SQL replace on the LF Forms user table "dbo.cf_user_profile", columns "data_url" and "thumbnail_data_url". This does not scale well for more than just one or two users and is not very flexible if they ever decide to change their signature as it requires a database admin to backdoor the changes.

I'd love to see a way natively in Laserfiche to adjust the default px count of the signatures. For our particular Word file merge, I found that an image of 400x166px works ideally.

This has been an ongoing problem at my organization as well. We have been developing Laserfiche Forms processes that write to a Word template using mail merge and customers have complained that the signatures are grainy and blurry on the final document.
