Question

Trim audit logs

asked on October 15, 2019

Hi team,

Could you please advise setting to limit how many days Audit logs are retained.

Ideally it could be set to retain last 30,60 or 90 days and automatically delete older to prevent Audit folder contents expanding uncontrollably.

many thanks

There isn't a native way within Laserfiche to limit the audit log retention; rollover logs will be kept forever within the AUDIT older location specified in the settings (typically in the repository path). Rollover logs can be manually deleted from within the LF Admin Console, or directly from the folder location.

If automation is desired, the best option is to create a PowerShell script that checks that folder location and deletes the log files older than a given age (30, 60, 90 days). Then, setup a task in Windows Task Scheduler on the server to run on a given schedule (daily, weekly, monthly) and execute that PowerShell script.

Seconding the approach Dustin suggests here.

As it seems you're primarily concerned with audit log storage consumption, consider sending the log files to cheap, cloud-based object storage such as AWS S3 or Azure Blob Storage before deleting them from the local server. Both of those services have PowerShell modules you can incorporate into the script. Their cold/archival storage tiers are $0.01 per GB/month or less.
