Question

LFFTS - Cluster

asked on October 15, 2019 Show version history

Hello! One customer wants to know more details about clustering in the following Laserfiche Avante 10.4 configuration:

"Node" 01:

Server A - LFS

Server B - LFFTS communicating with LFS on server A

"Node" 02:

Server C - LFS

Server D - LFFTS communicating with LFS on server C

Let's assume that the node 01 is active and running as our main node. If Server A fails, the cluster will activate the node 02 as the main node. But, instead let's imagine that Server A is ok, but Server B fails. How can we tell the cluster service that this node is not functioning right and has to be replaced by the node 02?

Are any events that can be monitored to tell the cluster when the communication between LFS and LFFTS is ok and when isn't and the node has to be changed?

Hope I could explain myself well, if you guys need more details just let me know.

Thank you very much.

For future needs:

I've stopped the Laserfiche Full-Text Indexing and Search Engine service on a Laserfiche 8.3.2 demo server and opened the Event Viewer. On Windows Logs -> Application I got event ID 32906 - LFFTS - The Laserfiche Full-Text Indexing and Search Engine has stopped. When I've started the service I got ID 32905 - LFFTS - The Laserfiche Full-Text Indexing and Search Engine has started.

Hi Felipe,

As far as I know, the only Laserfiche option which supports clustering is LFDS (Laserfiche Directory Server).

Other options can utilise clustering, but need to leverage the functionality offered by the hosts rather than the software.

In your above scenario, you'll need have 2 avante licenses to make this work, as you can only activate a single instance.

Hope this helps!

Hi Chris, thank you very much for the answer. That's right, the customer will have 2 Avante licenses.

They need more info about the communication between LFFTS and Laserfiche Server, so they can configure the cluster to act when the LFFTS is unavailable.

Ah ok, if LFFTS goes down, then text searching will be unavailable (not that bad).

If LFS goes down then that's more serious, as no-one can login etc. I don't see how you would get around this, as the 2 options don't support clustering.

Even if the host was to failover, then the HWFP would change and invalidate the license, and the services for LFS wouldn't start.

I think you would have to set this up and test to see what happens, but in short I don't think this is supported by Laserfiche.

Talking with the customer, I've found that they need to know which errors the Laserfiche Server Event Viewer will show if the LFFTS (installed on another server) goes down or stop responding.
