Laserfiche Cloud - Can a Web Request Rule authenticate to Forms?

asked on October 14, 2019

I've been waiting for an activity in Cloud Process Automation similar to the on-premise "Invoke Business Process". I was hoping the new 2019.4 Web Request Rule would provide the tools to make this happen. It appears promising. I can create a Web Service Connection to the correct Cloud forms endpoint ( https://forms.laserfiche.com/<tenant-id>/Form/Submit) and then add a Web Request Rule to dial that in further by adding the application/x-www-form-urlencoded payload with the correct data (field data, form ID, submit action, step id, etc.), but when testing I get a 400 error response. I believe this is due to an authentication issue. Is there any documentation available on authenticating to that Forms "Submit" endpoint? Does it have to be cookie based? Are there any pointers on getting Forms working with the new web request rule?

Thanks!

Due to the complexities with getting the authentication cookie, this concept of using a web request rule to integrate back and authenticate into business processes isn't currently supported. We recommend you wait for the Invoke Business Process activity. In the future, a public API could be used to authenticate into the system, but it is not available at this time.

Is your goal to simply get a Process Automation workflow to kick off a business process with some starting data? We are planning to add the Invoke Business Process functionality to Process Automation in the beginning of 2020.

Or were there other reasons you decided to go with the web request rule?

Jared, yes the goal is to have starting data in a form. The objective would be when a document is imported to a specific folder in the repository, a Process Automation workflow would start a Forms instance with that document's data.

The reason I'm attempting it with the new Web Request rule is I need to try and get it working for a project I've got now instead of waiting until the 2020 release.

So is there a way to authenticate to Forms via the Web Request rule? The rule properties appear robust enough to accomplish the authentication, but it's not clear how to put that into practice.
