Changes in Metadata permissions - Document Linking issues

posted on September 27, 2019 Show version history

Below is a background to the issue:

  1. In Laserfiche 10.2, users can create links to entries that they have only Read & Browse access.
  2. In 10.3 & Above, the user will need the 'WriteMetadata' access right to the entry before it can link to it.

Our Client has a Workflow that files entries in Folders and then sets user permissions to read & write only to these folders. Previously users are still able to link to such documents. Now they can't since updating Laserfiche. Client doesn't want users to modify these files once they are filed.

Since this seems to be a software function change, is there any workaround that will maintain the same format where users can still be able to link to these documents? Keep in mind that users usually browse to these documents to link to them.

Thanks in advance.

This was fixed in 10.3.1.

Hi Miruna,

When we checked last checked, this issue was still occurring in 10.4.1 as well.

Please open a case with Tech Support.

Actually, when digging a bit deeper, this was a change to security in 10.3. What was fixed for 10.3.1 was to allow users to link documents in record series without requiring this right (to conform with DoD specifications).
