Questions regarding Weblink users and attributes?

asked on September 19, 2019

I have a few questions regarding Weblink 10.1 that I'm struggling to find the answer to that I'm hoping someone here may be able to assist me with:

  1.  I have my users set up to automatically log in using windows credentials. I have found that if I don't select the sign out button in weblink and instead close my browser completely the public portal license remains in use by that session until my specified idle timeout so if that same user accesses weblink again, they can slowly eat away at those remaining portal licenses. If I sign out of weblink that license is released immediately. Is this how weblink is intended to work? I know I will run into issues with end users closing the browser without first signing out and if multiple users are doing this I am going to run into issues with my licenses being completely depleted.
  2. I would like all of my end users to have the exact same settings when browsing in weblink, are weblink settings stored in the user attributes the same way as web access? If so, is there an easy way to find the settings specific to weblink?
  3. Are there any plans to allow Microsoft Office documents to be previewed/viewed in weblink the same way as PDF documents are without having to generate pages for the Office documents?

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

  1. Yes, that's expected and why there is a timeout setting. Web servers can't reliably tell when a user closes a browser window and wait before releasing the resources associated with that session.
  2. Yes, user settings are stored in attributes. For things that are common between the applications (like column settings), the exact same attributes are used.
  3. That is something that has come up with our increased support of document preview in web client. We don't have a firm timeline for that at this time.
