Question

Detecting root cause of store to repository scanning hangups?

asked on September 18, 2019

We've had several users lately report slowness when saving documents to the repository during their scan processes. They will be using ScanConnect or TWAIN scanning, and during "Store to repository" activities, these programs become nonresponsive, and the storing task takes exponentially longer than usual to complete. The problem seems to come and go periodically for the same couple of users, though other users with much larger scanning jobs do not have the same issues.

Does anyone know of diagnostic/monitoring tools or specific server or application settings I can use to determine the root cause of this issue?

In the end, the issue was solved by changes to our organization's network to relieve overall slowness issues. Unfortunately, I was unable to collect any diagnostics to indicate that this was the root problem before the problem was fixed. I did try clearing out the users' attributes at one point, but that did nothing (because that wasn't the core issue).

Out of curiosity, what operating system version are you running? We have a growing number of users having similar issues and it seemed to coincide with deployment of Windows 10 version 1903.

Our Laserfiche servers are 2008 R2 and the users have a variety of machines, on Windows 7 and Windows 10. One of the users had these problems on a Windows 7 machine and continues to have the problem after being upgraded to Windows 10.

I know this does not really help find the "cause" of the problem, but I would start by removing all attributes on one of the affected users profile and see if the problem persists.
