Migrating Laserfiche Server and SQL DB

posted on September 16, 2019

Currently on LF 9.0

I am looking for information on migrating a Laserfiche Server to a new VM and then also moving the MS SQL Express DB to a new server running full SQL 2016.

Currently the Laserfiche Server, Repository and SQL Express are installed on one Server. The volumes reside on another server. These are staying put. Wanting to move the LF Server and Repo to a new VM and then move the Sql Express to a current production 2016 SQL Server.

Can I just move the repository files to the new server, unregister the repository, Backup the current DB then restore the backup to the new SQL Server, install LF server on the new server and then register the repo using the new location of the repo and new DB that was restored on the new server?

Yes, you can. However, you should first make sure that the customer is licensed for full SQL. The Laserfiche Server will not mount the repository if it's only licensed for SQL Express and the database is on a full SQL Server.
