Question

Adding sample pages

asked on September 11, 2019

I'm sure this is probably due to my newness to Quick Fields but I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong.

I have 3000+ documents that were created without adding a Student ID.  The Student ID is clearly displayed on page 2 of each document so I believe that I should be able to Zone OCR it from the document, right?

I've read the documentation and it makes it sound very straightforward.  I've removed all processing except for the Zone OCR under Page Processing.  I've tried adding multiple sample pages but it is always the first page of the document.  I've configured the Zone OCR to look at page two but I cannot get anything but page one of the document to show up as the sample.  How do I get sample page two to show up as an actual page two?

Correct. Copy the page out into its own document if you're working with a document in Laserfiche. Then in Quick Fields, add a sample page for page 2 and scan this document. That will put the "formerly known as page 2" page as the sample image.

Here is what you need to do:

1. Identify the first page

2. set Zone OCR to extract the 2nd page.

Tommy,

Thanks for the confirmation.  I'm doing it exactly like that but without the desired results.  I scan in a document and I can see the four pages of it.

I set up the Zone OCR process under First Page Identification and that seems to work just fine.

Then I click on Page Processing and add Zone OCR and set the Page Range to 2, but I still have the sample page of the first page.  So I can't align the scanning zone.

I need to select the Student ID from the second page which looks like this...

I have tried adding sample pages but they all are just copies of the first page.  The steps seem so easy, I must be overlooking something.  ???

Do you have any sample image for page 2?

When I click the link to Add sample page, it adds the first page again.  I have tried that...many times actually.  laugh  I always end up with multiple pages that are all copies of the first page.

I have verified that it actually did identify 4 pages and that they are the correct pages from the document...

...but all of the samples are the same.

Right, you can't add page 2 by scanning the same document with Capture Engine or Universal Capture. You need to pull that page out on its own and then scan it.

Let me make sure I'm understanding you correctly, Miruna.  You are saying make a document of the second page of the original document, to use as a Page 2 sample page.  Is that correct?

I can do that, but how do I instruct Quick Fields to use that document as Sample Page 2?  Do I have to put it in a folder all by itself in order for Quick Fields to use it?

Thanks for the info Miruna!  I've been building forms and workflows for a couple of years but never really had to do anything with Quick Fields until now.  When I looked for this information in the documentation I could not find this spelled out anywhere.

As powerful as the Laserfiche product is, this does seem like a klunky way to handle sample pages.  I smell a feature request!

Thanks...
