Web STS Issue: No Endpoint Listening at localhost:5048/LicenseManager/service

asked on August 29, 2019

Hello, I've been following this white paper (https://support.laserfiche.com/resources/3878/configuring-single-sign-on-for-laserfiche-web-products) to set up single sign on for our demo environment. I followed the first step and installed ONLY the Web STS on the same machine that LFDS was already installed on.

I went to the LFDSSTS/configuration page and my only options were the two timeout settings, an update button, and a message saying "There was no endpoint listening at http://localhost:5048/LicenseManager/service that could accept the message. This is often caused by an incorrect address or SOAP action. see InnerException, if present, for more details."

Now, the LFDS page has completely disappeared from IIS and typing in localhost/lfdssts just displays a blank page.

I tried to locate the End Point Config Utility in the Directory Server folder but it's not there. The STS Endpoint Utility is in the WebSTS folder, but in the Parent Directory Server folder there is only the following items:

"aspnet_client" folder

"Web" folder

LFDS.exe.config.bac

LFDSSTS web shortcut

I've opened a ticket already but also wanted to drop a question here as I need to resolve this ASAP

It sounds like you have replaced your initial install of LFDS with just the STS.

You could try running the installer again with BOTH the LFDS and STS components checked, and see if your configuration is recovered.

If at that point you get an error about connections in the LFDS web admin site, you can clear out the existing database connections by going to C:\ProgramData\Laserfiche\LFDS\ and removing the connections file; you then must reattach (using the Attach option) your LFDS database.

LFDS and STS are components of the same install like the desktop client and the desktop admin console: if you had the desktop client installed, and re-ran their combined installer but only selected the desktop admin console, this tells the installer that you want to remove the other component (the desktop client).

You should only ever select just the STS if you are installing the STS on a separate, new machine and you do not want LFDS to be present on that machine.

Yea ok that makes sense.  I actually already reinstalled the LFDS components and the site came back up.  Not sure why the white paper specified only the Web STS but I'm good now.

Still not able to enable SSO for Forms though but I think that's because Forms won't authenticate via LFDS without an SSL certificate which we don't have.

Is this the section you're referring to (on page 5)?

To install an STS instance by itself on a computer

1. Proceed as though you are doing a full installation of Directory Server.

2. On the Custom Setup step, make sure that only Laserfiche Directory Server Web STS is selected.

3. Proceed with the rest of the installation as usual

If so, it was intended as a reference for how to install the STS on a separate machine if that's what you needed (which is a common scenario, but it doesn't sound like yours).

I've talked to our documentation team and filed a bug to see if we can make that clearer, but I wanted to check with you that we're targeting the right part of the whitepaper.

Yea I see that now...I thought that was referring to same machine as LFDS
