Question

Are Timer Events Affected by Server Restarts?

asked on August 28, 2019

We have a few timer events on our Laserfiche Forms Processes and we're concerned that restarting the server for maintenance may affect this; Can anyone let us know for sure before we do a bunch of testing?

Thanks!

All of the information related to events is stored in the database. The system periodically checks what's in the database and compares it to the current time to see if it needs to trigger an event. The only reason server maintenance would interfere is if it were offline when the event was supposed to trigger. In that case, the system would trigger the event as soon as it came back online.

Does this apply to other parts of workflows that haven't completed at the time the server goes down?  What do we need to watch for when a server goes offline unexpectedly?

In-progress workflows are pretty resilient. The state is kept in the database and updated as each step completes. That's just the high level view though. If you need more detail, you might see if somebody from Laserfiche can weigh in (@████████ or @ed heaney). In general Workflow should be able to recover from a lot of issues. Spot checking the Workflow logs at the exact time the server went down would let you see if there were any specific issues.
