PDF Network Error when Saving to Laserfiche

asked on August 13, 2019

I have set up a simple forms process.  The form has 2 single line fields - no html fields, no css or javascript.  The only steps in the Process are the Message Start and the Save to Laserfiche.  When I try to run the process it gets suspended.  There is an error in  the event viewer:

The PDF generator was unable to contact the Laserfiche Forms server. Please ensure your SSL settings are correct. [LFF4112-PdfNetworkError]

The Forms server and the app server are in the same domain.  I have SSO and SSL enabled and seem to be working fine.

Windows Fire Wall is turned off.  But the server has no internet access.  I have tried both tif and pdf and get the same error.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What was the resolution to this?

What causes this? There is nothing in IIS to warrant a Forbidden response to the URL.

Support is asking for repair and reinstall right away. I would like to know if there is any way to troubleshoot the specific error before taking the whole environment down. It is very specifically throwing an error saying that the server is returning a Forbidden response, this would be an IIS setting, however when visiting the page with a browser there is no Forbidden response received.

What about re-installing Adobe Reader? If it's something PDF related I wonder if it's a missing component or something on that side?

We don't have Adobe Reader installed, I believe Laserfiche uses their own DLL. I have found that it happens when someone enters their own string into the Signature field, replacing the base64 code. Since the string they entered (usually their name or just a single letter) is not a valid code to generate an image out of the PDF generator can not generate a TIFF. I just can't figure out how they are doing this, likely by using an alternative browser that gives them additional access.

Here is an example where the user replaced the Base64 code with just the letter A

And it looks like this when trying to view the signed form

Did you ever figure out what causes this?  I've got a business process with multiple forms, all with signatures.  The user signed all of the forms, but the process suspends on "Save to Repository" for all but one of the forms.  The suspended "Save to Repository" forms all generate this error

The PDF generator was unable to contact the Laserfiche Forms server. Please ensure your SSL settings are correct. [LFF4112-PdfNetworkError]

On the Monitor page, one of the forms shows a signature, however, all of the other forms just show the generic graphic and no signature.

I had this error and found that forms was trying to resolve itself via the configuration for the Primary Forms URL, which is the external domain name. This was being blocked by a loopback protocol on the router.

We randomly started to see this error, is there any resolution to it?
