Hi,
Is it possible to send push notification to the mobil app from a workflow ?
Hi Olivier,
Thanks for your question! can you please provide more contextual information, because people don't always use the same terminology the same way. Also, the same goal may be achieved through different approaches. i fear that a simple yes or no answer may not be adequate.
thanks
Hui
Hi Hui Ren,
Thanks for your return.
I'm going to try to be more specific.
All start with a simple Workflow
Next, in the mobile app, get the notification.
Next, when the user click on the notification, run the Laserfiche Mobile App to the right form.
I know we can do like this with a form process but now is it possible to start with a workflow?
Hi Oliver,
What is the use case scenario for the solution you described? What types of notifications would be sent? I want to make sure I understand the problem behind the proposed solution. Thanks in advance!
Hi Yin Seo,
Thanks for your participation.
This is my scenario.
From Web Form, using a collection, User_A can create tasks for different people (user_A [himself], user_B, user_C,..).
Each user can have 1 or more tasks.
At the submiting, using a Workflow, each task created is saved in a database and an email is sent to the users to warn them that they have a stain. On the email, I insered the links to the next Forms.
I wish to change the alert because each users need to open an email manager to know if they had get the emails.
I wish to add a push notification on the Mobile App to alert the users and redirect them to the next forms.
Like this, from there smartphone, each users can just click on the push notification to open the forms.
Next, using Workflow and schedule, if a task is still OPEN in the database, I wish to alert 1 more time the user by email and push notification.
Let me know if this is not pretty clear.
Currently Forms notifies users in the mobile app when a task is assigned to them. If you have Worfklow start a process that assigns a task to a user, Then you already have a notification pushed in the app.
I feel like I'm missing something and we're not getting the full use case...
Hi Miruna,
Thanks for your return. I'm going to be more specific about my scenario.
Let's start again.
This is my first process.
And my Form
When the Submit button is clicked, my workflow is starting.
The values are saved in the database.
And an email is sent to the agents.
Each Agent get the email notification with the link to the next Form (to another process).
Because the next Forms are not in the start process, I don't know how to notify them except by email but I prefer to notify them by Mobile App Push.
For some reasons, I can't put all the Forms in the same Process.
For me, the best way to notify the Agent is to use the Workflow before.
Why not have Workflow start the Forms process for them and assign the task? That way you'd get the notification in the mobile app.
Hi Miruna,
I tried to start the process from the workflow but it didn't work.
I means my process start and end immediatly and I didn't receive the push notification.
I inserted a required field to force the form but nothing. The process started and end
This is my process.
What was the terminating error in this Forms process?
But, since this is where you are going to give those tasks to users, shouldn't you have a User Task action instead of a Save to Laserfiche one?
My bad! I thougt I could start with the green one.
So I should start like this, right?
Ok, now my process is started.
On my device, I received the task but not the notification.
On my settings, notification is "on".
Did you configure notifications in Forms?
Miruna,
Under Laserfiche FormsConfig#notification, the url is filled.
I tried "localhost", pcname, ipadresse but nothing. I don't have the notification.
Hi Olivier,
Please see if other forms are getting their usual notifications. We are in the process of renewing the notification certificate. Windows platform is cleared, and we are resolving a couple of cases for the iOS and Android platforms as we speak.
If you see the same issue with other forms on iOS or Android, it's possibly due to the old certificate issue. It's a good sign that you are getting the tasks.
Thanks
Hui
Hi Hui,
I tried a simple process with 2 participants (without workflow, only LFForms).
User 1 (me) started the process using the Form 1,
Next, the user 2 (a colleague) should get the notification to continue the process with the Form 2, right?
Under his Mobile App, he get the task but he didn't receive the notification.
The notification bell shows 12 new notifications. Is none of those for the form you sent?
Miruna,
The 12 notifications from notification bell is all for my new form I sent but I didn't receive the push notification.
I means, I need to open the Mobile App to see the notifications. In my home screen I don't have the notifications.
Actually, the team working on the mobile app tells me we currently have a bug in the app that prevents push notifications from working on iOS and Android devices if TLS 1.0 is disabled on the Forms server. We're looking into issuing a patch.
The functionality should still work in the mobile app on Windows 10 if you just want to see it in action.
Hi Miruna
Great news.
Can you give me a date?
Hi Olivier,
The notification service currently supports the cases when a form process causes changes in a user's task inbox. If the workflow in your example doesn't touch this particular function area, notification is not yet available.
That said, we are constantly looking into updating/upgrading our services to meet new needs, and would like to understand better what kind of use cases you are trying to solve. As a mere speculation i have, are you trying to send mobile notifications when certain repository documents, or metadata etc, have been updated, where currently you can configure the WF to send out an email, or something along that line? I don't want to speculate too much and wild at this point. Your feedback will help greatly to improve the LF App.
As a side note, we have published a mobile app specific survey looking for users to share their high-level thoughts with using LF App. You will be more than welcome to fill out this simple survey.
Thank you,
Hui
Hui Ren,
Thanks for the invitation. I'll glad to join your specific survey.
To reply you, yes I'm trying to send mobile notifications from workflow but not necessary from an update.
e.g : This could start every month (schedule). Next, from the notification, the user is redirected to the Starting Form in the mobile app.
From the email, the link will open the web browser, next, the user should to log in first and only then he will have the form.
