Photo Not Uploading to Form from iPhone

asked on August 1, 2019

We've had a couple users report an issue attaching photos to a form. We've deduced that the issue seems to be related to iPhone users.

I've set the following restrictions:

File extensions allowed: jpg
Maximum file size: 100MB
File upload limit: 1

We're using Laserfiche Forms Professional Version 10.3.1.635

When a user with an iPhone tried uploading a photo to the form the get the following error message: "File type is not supported. Only files with extension jpg are supported." and yet I had the user email me the photo and it was a jpg that was only 3MB.

I tried submitting the form on an android and had no issues.

Thoughts on how to fix this and keep the limitation of file extension to jpg?

We figured out the root cause of it, it is because for the photos on IPhone, the extension is "JPEG" instead of "JPG", you can add "JPEG" to your allowed extension for the file upload field to make it work for IPhone.

Apple switched the settings for all users to save pictures to a proprietary format. You can switch it back to jpg though.

This is a bug for Forms with file extension check on IPhone, can you remove the file extension allowed configuration to allow upload all types of files as workaround?

Will the files that come in from an iPhone be jpg? Or will it be a different file extension? I guess I could turn off the limitation and test the submission to find out...

The files come from IPhone is indeed jpg as if we copy that picture to a laptop and it can be uploaded correctly, it is just the check for the extension in IPhone of Forms has some problem.

Okay, thanks for letting me know. This form isn't used too much so we've just indicated that the user can email their picture to us if they have issues. I'll keep this in mind if we have issues in future. Thanks
