Web Access Save Search and/or Save Columns Domain picker

asked on July 22, 2019

In Web Access, when you go to set security, you have (at the bottom of the dialog) an option to set the domain you wish to select users from.

But when you try to Save Search or Save Columns, (as far as I can find) it does not give you the option to choose the domain.

What we are finding is that it pulls users and groups from the top sub domain of the list shown in the security settings window with no way to switch to a different sub domain.

For example, If you have domain abc.local and sub domains of group1.abc.local, group2.abc.local, and group3.abc.local, when you try to save columns and/or searches, the only selectable users/groups would be from the group1.abc.local.

Any thoughts/ideas on how to get around this?

Hi Bert,

I filed a feature request to add the domain picker to the UI for Saved Searches and other features that allow you to push configurations to a group. That will provide built-in support for pushing Saved Searches or Columns to a group in any trusted sub domain.

Anytime you push a search or profile to a group, that configuration is saved as an attribute to the Everyone group. One thing you could try is pushing out the desired searches or columns to a group in the default domain, then manually editing the attribute to point towards a group in another domain.

Here's what the attributes look like:

The main identifiers are the group name in the attribute name, between the |  |, and the groupSid in the XML. You can get the group Sid by adding it as a column in the group/account listing of the Desktop Admin Console. So if you push your searches to a group in the default domain, then edit the name and group sid to the desired group, the searches might transfer.

Full disclosure- I haven't tried this myself, so I can't guarantee it will work. But I wanted to offer it as a possible solution.

Note that the letter before the group name (R in this case) is meaningful.

R -> repository trustee

L -> Laserfiche trustee

E -> LDAP trustee

D -> domain trustee

U -> unknown

You might need to edit that letter depending on the test group you use to generate the base attribute.
