Question

Image Capture Plus & Laserfiche Integration

asked on July 19, 2019

Hi All,

The new version of ICP from Panasonic has a new option called "Output to Application" where you can point it at an EXE and add some arguement parameters.

I've tried this with Laserfiche but haven't got a clue what kind of arguement I would need to add.

Anybody got any ideas?

Cheers!

Hi Chris,

There's nothing obvious on the help page:

https://www.laserfiche.com/support/webhelp/Laserfiche/10/en-US/administration/#../Subsystems/LFAdmin/Content/Command-Line_Parameters.htm%3FTocPath%3DLaserfiche%2520Administration%2520Guide%7CAppendix%2520F%253A%2520Automatic%2520Client%2520Login%7C_____1

I would have through the output should go to a folder for IA, QF or WF to monitor. Failing that, you could write a stub in .Net to pass a document to a LF. Given your experience with the product, I suspect you've thought of those already though. I've not needed it before but would be a new feature to learn about!

Thanks Ben, yeah this is something totally new.

We've been pushing Panasonic for a few years now to get a Laserfiche integration for their ICP product (as for a free product it's pretty sweet!). And they have come up with this. No idea how to make this force an import pop up dialog or similar though, I had looked at the .exe commands referenced, but these all seem geared towards displaying/searching something rather than importing into Laserfiche.

Outputting to a file with WF/IA is an option, but doesn't really give you any more benefit than an MFP would. The idea behind a true integration with ICP, is you could add index information on the fly (similar to what you can do with ecopy or the on board connectors for Samsung and Ricoh MFP's). The offput is these are paid options, how good would it be to have this functionality straight from Panasonic, for free!?

I've not used ICP but from your enthusiasm, I'd say "pretty fre*ken sweet."

A stub would have to handle authentication and storage. You'd also have to decide if it were to be Win client only or support Web Client, or even Cloud.

  1. CAT would be the most simple approach as it would leverage the Win client  for authentication and location.
  2. However, that would exclude Web or Cloud, so an interface that relied on either a configuration file or a "show me once per session" configuration dialogue, or an ability to integrate with LFDSSTS. So a stub written to make its own connection and handle the storage location would work across all flavours of LF seems the best approach.
  3. Perhaps a generic approach; Panasonic could have written something CMIS compliant.
  4. Or a product that allows for all options. Why not extend it to be remotely configurable, to assist rollout and maintenance as there will be many options to configure, if the software offers more than just CAT integration.

I think Panasonic haven't delivered any kind of integration, just a basic interface for one to write. If written by Panasonic, they would need to be invested to keep on top of changes to the Laserfiche interface, and any new ones LF deliver.

If you can define your requirements, I'd gladly write this and include a deployment package. Not sure I'd be free though ;).

I'm happy to post a CAT-based script to the forum though.

-Ben

Edit: change to item two to highlight LFDSSTS.

Thanks Ben, very helpful. We literally have zero customers using the web client, so wouldn't be too bothered about it not supporting that at this stage. I'll have another chat with Panasonic, as they painted the picture this would be super simple. Cheers!

Hi Chris,

Have Panasonic come back to you on this?

Hi Ben, no nothing yet, although this has been an ongoing discussion we've had for a few years now, so don't expect anything to change very quickly!

Not sure if it is what you are looking for but you could try pointing Image Capture Plus to the Laserfiche "Send To" exe.

I don't recall the LF Client itself ever supporting any command line import options.

Example of a command line that would import "Bob-Smith.tif":

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Laserfiche\SendToLf\SendToLaserfiche104.exe" "C:\Scans\Bob-Smith.tif"

That should open the LF Send to import window where you can select an LF Import Profile and/or populate the template. UPDATE: for some reason the SendToLF link doesn't allow you to use LF import profiles. This happens anytime using the Sendto link not just from Image Capture

We use Image Capture Plus as well, but I haven't played with the Output to Application feature yet. I would assume they send the path to the scanned image by default to the application you link to.

Thanks Tony, I'll give this a go and see what happens.

I just tried this with Image Capture Plus/LF 10 and it worked.

Had to add %file to the Parameter textbox since it turns out it doesn't send the image path by default.

Interesting Thanks Tony. Are you able to share a screenshot or the syntax you used? Cheers!
