Question

Searching repository based on GPS location

asked on July 1, 2019

Hi,

We have a potential client who works in property and would find searching their repository (on Mobile devices) using GPS location really useful.  An example of this being a Property File is added to their repository (with address and Postal Code) and this gets a GPS location.  When the user arrives at the property they can open the Mobile App and call up all documents in the repository based on their location without having to search for property name or ID. etc.

When in the office, is it possible to open a map and view documents based on location on the map (a bit like the iPhone picture location)?

Cheers,

Anthony

Hi Anthony,

Map searching/location setting features are built into the web client, mobile app, and Workflow. For mobile app usage, users can upload content with a location value based on their current location, and can also run a document search using a mile radius using the map view. Here's an example help file for the iPhone app that outlines map functionality for searching and import.

Location services are also available in the web client as of 10.4, allowing users to manually set locations using a map view and search using a location. These location services utilize either Google Maps or ESRI ArcGIS.

In 10.4.1, Workflow now has the ability to set a location as part of a business process if given a point value. Please note that this does not directly take an address and convert it to a location, but can be used in conjunction with web services or a Forms process to set a location on a document for future retrieval.
