Question

ADD NEW DOCUMENT TO OLD DOCUMENT IF METADATA MATCHES

asked on June 28, 2019

Hi all,

Using workflow, I would like to add (move pages) of a newly created document to an existing document if the information in the metadata field matches.  I know this should be easy, but I can't seem to get it to work.  Any help would be appreciated.

Workflow is definitely the right tool for the job!  It is a two step process.

  1. Search for a document that matches the starting entry
  2. Move pages from the starting entry to the output of the search.

Where are you having trouble?

I have a template field called Miscellaneous.  I only need the files to be combined if the data in that field matches.  If I add that field to my search repository function, it will combine files as long as there is data in that field even if they don't match.

You might want to add an extra check to ensure that none of the search results is the starting entry (either to your search criteria or as a condition in the For Each loop) so pages from the starting entry aren't moved as well.

Workflow can only move Image pages, so if your document is a PDF, you have to have create images turned on so when you ingest the file it will create images of each page.
