Question

Question

separate PDF files into multiple files in the repository

asked on June 24, 2019

We have a client who is currently scanning Employee files for their payroll office. Essentially, they are scanning in 6-40ish page PDFS with ALL types of documents included, like direct deposit forms, W4s, employee donation info etc. Much of this information is handwritten, but i was hoping for a solution that would pull apart each document in workflow or even quickfields if possible. I feel like my best bet is Quickfields, but I don't recall ever using it to pull the document apart into different files. Is that even possible without downloading it, separating the pages out in adobe?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Laserfiche cannot directly split a PDF, but, Quick Fields can convert it to TIFF pages and split those apart, but it would be better to scan as a native LF document (TIFF pages) instead of PDF to avoid converting images back and forth.

If they have a set page count, there's also an option in Lasecfiche Scanning to scan each page as a separate document from the very beginning.

We use Quick Fields and cover sheets to split up multiple document types within 1 scanned .pdf.  The cover sheet is removed during the QF processing

Do you include the separation sheet if there is nothing in that section?

In Quick Fields you can have multiple Document Classes - each detecting a different kind of cover sheet (we wrote code to generate QR codes) so you can omit or include sections as desired.

That what I have configured now, and the cover sheet gets deleted. If there are no docs in that section though, I still seem to end up with this empty file.

Sounds to me like the "First Page Identification" section is not strong enough and it's detecting that a non-seperation-sheet page (as in page 2) is being identified for a different document class.  When it does this, then deletes page one in the "Post-Processing" section ... I can see where that would result in an empty entry.
