Question

Records Management - What does 'Destroyed' really mean

asked on June 21, 2019

Hello

Can I assume that 'destroyed' documents have been removed from storage on my file server?

I am interested in reducing the amount of documents on my file server.  We pay for storage and to back up this storage so the fewer documents we have, the better.

We have a records management retention schedule.  I manually cut off a folder worth of eligible documents and clicked on 'Destroy'.

Can I assume that these documents have been removed from storage on my file server?

Hi Peter,

Note that the actual windows files are only removed during the LF maintenance window, not straight away wink

This is 1AM-3AM by default, but you can change it in the LF Admin console.

I have changed my initial reply as it was inaccurate:

From my testing the actual files are removed from the repository volume structure on the Laserfiche server during the Maintenance Window (refer to Chris Douglas below).

I have Destroyed records through Records Management and their images have been removed from repository records (the metadata can be kept or not depending on Retention setting).

The actual files were removed from Windows during Laserfiche maintenance.

Thanks Chris,

That makes much more sense.

My testing was done on a VM which is never open during the default Maintenance Window; hence my files always remained.
