Question

Can permanent stamps in Quick Fields work with transparency?

asked on June 21, 2019

I am trying to do a full page "permanent stamp" in Quick Fields Complete that applies a form to a document that otherwise just had machine data on it in a particular layout. This results in a merged form with data that came from a mainframe system.

Permanent Stamp seemed like a good way to do this, since normal stamps support "transparent" stamps that have no data in a specific spot. Without transparency support, white space basically overwrites what was underneath it on the page.

However, Permanent Stamps don't seem to have the ability to support transparent stamps. Is this intended or am I missing a setting?

Hi Gareth,

I'm not sure I understand your use case. Can you elaborate on what exactly the stamp and document you're working with looks like and why you want to apply a form to your documents?

Hi Tessa,

We are basically trying to use Laserfiche to build a Purchase Order. The client's Accounting system can "print" the data of the PO to a printer, but they are relying on software on the printer to then overlay the image of the Form. What they want to do now is be able to send the data to Laserfiche, then overlay the Form on top of the data which they know will be strategically positioned on the page, such that the overlaid form will not interfere.

I have no idea if this would work, but what about the water mark option in snapshot? It looks like you could supply an image to combine at time of printing.

I really appreciate the additional context, thank you. I agree that the watermark option is worth looking into. Another idea is if you can capture the data as tokens, then you could have Workflow fill out a word document that has the Purchase Order format already.

We will investigate the watermark option, thanks for that!

As far as the word document activity, we have historically had trouble with that in the context of multi--page scenarios. With POs for example, if there are so many line items that it bleeds over to a new page, we tend to have problems. Also if the source text for a token exceeds a certain number of characters, it does a poor job of wrapping.
