Switch from Named to Education Subscription Licenses

asked on June 20, 2019 Show version history

I have a Client that recently purchased the Education Subscription Licenses. They are currently on Laserfiche Avante but have the LFDS 10.4 installed. Below is their current set-up:

  • Their users use Laserfiche Accounts to login. The Laserfiche Accounts are not linked to Windows Accounts.
  • Their Forms User Authentication is configured for Laserfiche Server.
  • They also have Forms Participant Licenses (but these are not LDAP Users, just 'simple accounts').
  • The Forms have Teams.

Client added a few Windows accounts in LFDS and assigned them the Education Subscription license. These users are able to login to the Client after being added there. But for these users to able to access Forms, the Forms User Authentication has to be switched from Laserfiche Server to LFDS.

How do we do that taking into consideration the:

  1. Laserfiche Users that have assigned tasks in Forms.
  2. The Participant Licensed users who are neither Laserfiche user nor LDAP accounts.

It seems that the Laserfiche Account Migration utility is no more at this moment.

What would be the best way to proceed to start utilizing the Education Subscription Licenses? Is there a detailed white paper for this migration?

The migration utility is back online! My apologies for missing this post when I was updating the status.

Remember to back up all relevant databases (Forms, LFDS, LF Server repository database) before running the utility.

The Laserfiche Account Migration utility is being actively worked on, and we plan to have it back online soon. It is the only out-of-the-box method from moving full named repository users created in the admin console to Laserfiche users within LFDS while preserving their Forms and repository security etc.

As such, I strongly recommend waiting for the utility to be available again. If you migrate over the participant users first (which Forms can handle by itself), it will lose the information for the repository users.

When the utility is back online, you will also have access to the corresponding whitepaper, which talks about the appropriate steps and the order of those steps.

Thanks Brianna.

Do we know when this would be released?

Any timeline on when this utility will be re-released?

Apologies for the delay: we decided to add a round of testing by a team with a specific set of experience, and they were committed to the 10.4.2 release.

We are verifying fixes on the bugs they identified, and I will keep you all posted when we have an ETA.
