Question

Why can't Laserfiche recover from SQL server restart?

asked on June 19, 2019

Hello,

I wanted to inquire on why Laserfiche is not able to recover from a SQL server restart without restarting the Laserfiche services after the SQL server comes back up. A client had a unexpected shut down of the SQL server and this has raised concern as to why Laserfiche cannot recover from this.

Regards,

Yes, Laserfiche services attempt to reconnect to SQL if they temporarily lose connection. That's not new to 10.4 or even version 10.

Which services are we talking about here and what was the behavior you observed?

When the SQL server was rebooted Laserfiche became inaccessible. This is expected of course, but when SQL services came back up Laserfiche could not be accessed until the Laserfiche server service was restarted. At that time we suggested all Laserfiche products that use a database be restarted to ensure the database connection was reestablished.

I'd recommend opening a support case. We've had some issues where the Laserfiche Server was not starting up properly if LFDS was not fully running when the Laserfiche Server came up (which could happen if both connect to the same SQL Server). That was fixed for 10.4.

Just so I am understanding correctly. Laserfiche 10 should be able to recover from the SQL server restarting without the Laserfiche services being restarted?

Hey Miruna,

Is there any specific documentation I can reference as to how Laserfiche reacts to a SQL server restart that I can provide to the client?
