I know field values can be populated with dynamic fields.  Is there a way to choose the actual fields dynamically?

For example, I have a department that uses several templates regularly.  I would like to have them consolidated (in a manner of speaking) by choosing the types of document related to their specific department and automatically have the appropriate fields appear related to that specific document type.  T

So basically, I would like the fields themselves to be dynamic instead of the values.

Is there any way to do this?
