Errors showing up

asked on May 28, 2019 Show version history

Hi there,

These errors are showing up when a user takes an existing document, and wants to save it is a new document. This popup takes place. Not sure what is causing the errors. Any assistance please as to possible solutions. We are in the midst of roll-out and need to resolve this quickly. We are on 10.4 web client.

It looks like maybe data in one or more of the fields is invalid. Did the length or list values change on the template or any fields that were applied to the documents?

No changes were made the data fields at all. Just a simple save as a new document from the existing document - and those errors appear.

If you had data in the fields and then redefined those fields so that their current data entries aren't valid now, that could be causing the issue. Try removing all values from the fields on one of the documents to see if this might be the case.

Did you look at the event viewer to see what kind of errors you're getting?

I tried reproducing the issue (but we're on 10.3 right now). I can't seem to reproduce it, so maybe something is different between the two versions? I tried changing the parameters for various types of fields, and even when an invalid value is in a field, it still saves the new document with the invalid value. If the event viewer doesn't point you to the issue, I think I'd still try clearing all fields to see if you can create a new document from another. If it's successful, I'd try adding the data back a little at a time to see if you can figure out which field is causing the problem.

One of the things to check is the number of characters stored in metadata fields.  If you have a 40 character field and try to save more than 40 characters (even 41 characters), you will get errors of this type.
