Forms - Unable to send email because semi-colon is an invalid character?

asked on May 20, 2019 Show version history

I am getting this message when trying to send an email to multiple email addresses in forms

Unable to send an email. Please contact your system administrator. An invalid character was found in the mail header: ';'.

What delimiter should I use to separate emails if not the semi-colon.

This bug was fixed in Forms 10.4.2. Upgrading to the latest version should address the issue.

This is a bug in Forms (reference ID #173623) where a variable cannot inject multiple email addresses into thr To/CC/BCC fields in the Email task.

Thanks for this posting.  Armed with this info, I quit trying to fix it, and just added a second email activity to the workflow to send to the additional email address.

Worked just fine.

Where is the email  value coming from?

Just a variable, from a field on the form

Doesn't the email field only allow one email address at a time?

I am using a list field, where each selection has alternative values which designate everyone who needs to receive an email later on in the process.

Or in the case of my raw testing, I am using just a single line field.

Okay I see.

What about using a Workflow plugin to handle the sending of the email?

I presume you are using Forms email tool.

Workflow will surely nicely for each through the list of email addresses?

I have been unable to determine how to build a workflow that can be called by forms, without it being tied down to only a single forms process. Each time I configure the Retrieve Forms Values it requires that I select a specific process. I can't just select that I want to retrieve variables with a specific name and call it from all processes.

Chad

That is correct.  In Forms Process Modeler, you either call a workflow from a service task or you store the form submission to Laserfiche from a service task (putting the Instance ID and Submission ID as field values.  If forms stores to Laserfiche, have the Document creation start the workflow process and use the Instance ID and Submission ID values to retrieve the form data.

Chad,

While the variables are locked to a specific form in the selector, if you retrieve a common variable name from another form/business process that is not selected it will work.

Oh! I guess I soft locked myself on the idea that it would not work because I was picking a process. Good to know!

Hi Chad,

Did I solve the issue?

I just read your reply and it seems positive.

Did you win this?

Not yet but John taught me that I can share workflows between forms processes, which is huge.

You do have to save copies to the repository with the instance ID as metadata if you want to be able to attach the form using Workflow though.
