Question

Find User in Custom Attribute

asked on May 20, 2019

I recently wrote in a post that we were having issues with email addresses not changing in AD when that is a name change and this is messing up our Find User activity.  I thought we had it fixed by adding proxyAddresses to the custom attributes in workflow admin console.

More testing has proven that that is not a fix. Does anyone know if the Find User activity searches to see if the token is anywhere in the field instead of just at the beginning?

Example:  Sally Sample is listed in Active Directory with the email address of sample.sally@workplace.com.  Sally gets married and changes her name to Sally Doe.  The name in Active Directory shows Sally Doe.  The proxyAddresses field shows both sample.sally@workplace.som and doe.sally@workplace.com.  The email field in active directory still shows sample.sally@workplace.com.

If I use Find User by the proxyAddresses field, only one of the two emails addresses is found.  The newer one still breaks whether I search by the email field or by the proxyAddresses field.

Can anyone give me some insight?  We are currently on 10.2 and moving to 10.3 in a couple months but have to wait before we can go to 10.4.

Thanks.

Yes, it's failing on proxyAddresses and matching on the email attribute.

Can you look up the user and look at the exact value you get for the proxyAddresses field?

Below is a screenshot of what my account in our Active Directory returns for the proxyAddresses attribute.  You can see that I have 2 areas (smtp) highlighted.  Those are 2 different email addresses that come to my outlook box.

If I use one of the email addresses it works.  If I search off the other email address it says no results found.

And today for the first time, it has started returning a blank value in that field even though I have search it just 10 minutes prior and it returned a value in that field.

Does the working email address match the one in your email attribute? Workflow falls back to looking at the other attributes if it doesn't find a match on the specified one.

Yes, the one that works matches the one in the email attribute.  So you are saying that it is not really finding it in proxyAddresses and it checks other attributes until it finds a match?  Then only comes back as no results found if it has checked all the attributes and does not find a match?
